Kris Wells - Values {City of St. Albert Council Nominations}

Kris Wells

If you don’t stick to your values when they are being tested, they’re not values: they’re hobbies.
— Jon Stewart

As a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ community, Kris was hesitant to publicly show support for my campaign because he didn’t want to hurt my chances of being successful. I responded to him by saying that what he stands for - acceptance, inclusiveness, and respectful open dialogue - are values that I hold dear and am proud to support.

Suicide rates of LGBTQ youth are horrific. Kids are dying because they feel isolated. Kids are dying because they don’t feel safe in their own communities. Advocates like Kris work hard to make sure that all our children have the opportunity to feel safe, and that they have somewhere to turn when they need support.

As a St. Albert parent and community member, it is already my responsibility to work towards ensuring that all our residents feel safe and supported. It's why I've volunteered in St. Albert for over two decades, and why I'm committed to meeting with residents to learn more about our values and our needs. Community leaders like Kris are invaluable because they are teaching all of us how to be an ally.

Kris, thank you for fighting for the wellbeing of all our children; You are saving lives. And thank you for your support today.

(Over the next few weeks, I will be thanking the St. Albert electors who have chosen to support me through their signing of my nomination papers.)
