Regular Council Meeting August 29, 2023

Surprisingly for this time of year, this week’s meeting looks be be very short - I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s one of the shortest of the term.

Agenda highlights

Transit buses ($1.6M, $9.3M, $8.3M)

Delayed from 2019 when we were intending to join regional transit, the first part of out transit discussion is to approve the purchase of new buses ($1.6M), which will allow us to service new areas including Jensen Lakes and Riverside. This is being considered in advance of all the other 2024 projects because the lead time to buy busses is 1-2.5 years, so early approval means we can start procurement sooner.

The second part of this discussion is consider $9,250,700 to replace busses in 2025 and $8,267,000 in 2026. The early decision is because of how long these take to procure.

Emergency Preparedness Partnership Agreement

Back in 2007, St. Albert signed a mutual aid agreement with 21 other municipalities in the region, so partners are able to help in cases when assistance is needed. This is to approve an update of the agreement, which will be aligned with new provincial alignment related to these partnerships.

This is a brief and incomplete overview of our meetings, with my personal comments sprinkled in - In no way are my opinions representative of the official direction of council or the City of St. Albert. Please let me know of any typos or errors. Members of the public can register to speak if they have information to present to council. Full agenda packages can be found on the stalbert.ca website.
